eBook to visit Granada

Granada, as many other cities in Spain, has great reasons to visit it, but you won’t find these main three in other cities:

First reason to visit Granada

The first reason is that Granada has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The best known is the Alhambra & Generalife, where you will let your imagination fly, and it will allow you to discover the mysteries hidden in this medieval city. Strolling through it streets, palaces and gardens is like going back to the times when it was all built for the Sultan and his family’s enjoyment.

Alhambra & Generalife: visit to Granada

Everyone expects just one palace, but the reality is that the Alhambra is a complete palatine city. However, it is composed of a military zone, a Madinat -city-, several palaces and gardens on a separate hill.

The other World Heritage Site is the oldest district of the city: the Albaicín. To visit Granada is to lose oneself in its streets and squares, contemplating its unique manor houses and buildings, it’s like getting lost in a labyrinth that transports you to another era. In addition, from its viewpoints, you can also take the most amazing pictures of Granada.

Second reason to visit Granada

The second reason is the fact that in Granada you will be able to visit the Royal Chapel. It is where the Catholic Monarchs are buried: Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon. Queen Isabella loved Granada so much that she wanted to be buried here forever. You will get to know the history of these kings and their descendants, as Juana I of Castile -the madwoman- and Charles I of Spain and V of Germany. You will be introduced to the foundations of what we call Spain today.

Third reason to visit Granada

Last but not least. Granada was the place where the agreements were signed of that adventurous voyage that we all know as the Discovery of America. Christopher Columbus visited Queen Isabella when she was in the city, and it was in Granada where this event took place on April 17, 1492.

An adventure took place on October 12, 1492 when Columbus arrived at the island of Guanahaní, an island that is located in the Bahamas and which Columbus called San Salvador. From that moment on, the life of what would later become “the New Spain” has changed forever.
