Best things to do in Granada with kids

Family-friendly fun and educational attractions

Hello parents! Are you planning a getaway to the magical city of Granada and traveling with children? Are you had been wanting to visit Granada, but you can’t find the time? Do you not know where to start? What activities and visits to choose?

Don’t worry, as a mother; I know how important it is to find that balance between culture and fun so that all family members can enjoy the experience.

To help you, I suggest to you the activities that we are usually carried out in my own family.

Most can be done all year round, but some have their own season. The offer is really wide, and families can choose according to their tastes.

Granada with kids in winter

Granada matches sea, culture, and snow perfectly.

In fact, snow is one of our big differences. We have the biggest highest mountain in the South Iberian Peninsula with plenty of blue-sky days.

Just 45 minutes by car you can enjoy the Sierra Nevada ski resort with countless winter activities for the whole family.

I recommend the “Mirlo Blanco” because it is a snow mini amusement park where you do not need to know how to ski to have fun. You should try the Russian sled!

Also, if you like ice skating or have never done it, in “Don Patín” you can have a good time as a family. And if you don’t skate, like me, around the building you will find many bars and cafeterias.

At present, it is temporarily closed.

Just across the street is the Isla’s Cafeteria. They sell the typical Granada dessert called “pionono.

Maybe, you prefer something salty, in that case, this is a great opportunity to try the typical tapas for locals.

Granada with kids in summer

If you are someone who loves summer, I can guarantee you many activities.

My daughter’s favorite place is “Aqua-TropicWater Park.  It offers some great water-based fun for all ages and plenty of shade to relax or have a picnic.

It is located in front of the Mediterranean Sea, in the town of Almuñecar. To get there, you will need private transportation or a public transportation. It takes about an hour and a half to get there.

All the attractions have sea water, which makes this park different. Your family can spend an afternoon or the whole day soaked in water on its fun attractions.

However, if you prefer the sea, in less than an hour by car, you can enjoy a family day at the beach.

Our favorite beach is “Playa Granada” in Motril because it has parking, showers, rescue, and surveillance. And what most we like is its family atmosphere.

The surrounding has a Moorish-style air and the only golf course on the tropical coast. It is curious, but in the middle of the parking, you will find a house; called “Villa Astrida”, that belonged to the Belgium kings: Baldwin and Fabiola.

Culture and leisure plans for the whole family

I imagine you are wondering what you can do for the rest of the year in Granada.

Granada is a great destination for a family, and it can be visited at any time of the year. There is always something interesting and fun to do. It already depends on your priority and time.

A very special place in my family has been the Science Park, “Parque de las Ciencias”.  We have spent many hours in this interactive museum. It is a few minutes’ walk from the historical city center.

And the best part is, that everything can be touched. Yes, you have read well, everything can be touched… And that is a plus for children.  It is a place where you can learn in a fun way.

We used to take our picnic and spend the day in the park. There is so much to do and see that time flies as you enjoy its facilities, workshops, and exhibitions.

Do not miss the observation tower. From this elevated position, you can observe the Granada panorama view.

Granada for adventurous families

All the activities proposed above are interesting, but your family is more adventurous.

In this case, I propose you an outdoor and an adrenaline activity. Visit the “Aventura Amazonia Viznar-Granada”.

Have fun in the trees with the zip lines and circuits for all ages. Take your picnic and then find a corner with amazing views of Granada!

If you look for outdoor activities, you cannot miss the Granada white mountain villages like las Alpujarras.

Or take a short hiking and trekking route.  My family loves going out to breathe some fresh air, walk on different paths, and enjoy our homemade picnic close to a river.

Take note of our favorite routes in case you dare to do them:

  • “Paseo de la Pavilla” in Nigüelas
  • “La Dehesa del Generalife”
  • “Los Cahorros”
  • “La Ruta del Gollizno”

Most require transport, except “la Dehesa del Generalife”.  If you want to do this route, you only have to get to the Alhambra parking.  The route begins between the Alhambra parking and the Granada Cemetery.  You will be surprised by the Granada views.

The culture of Granada with children

We have had so much fun, now it is time for some culture.  And who said, culture is boring?

I disagree, history is fascinating but it must be well explained to capture and maintain attention.

That is why I propose a personalized and exclusive guided tour to your family with leisure-educational activities (clue game, gymkhana, etc.) so that everyone can enjoy the experience.

Visit with me the Alhambra & Generalife.

Imagine visiting the palaces where great decisions were made.

Discover the great sultans and kings’ secrets who lived in these palaces and quarters.  Did you know that Catherine of Aragon was brought up in the Alhambra until she went to England to marry Henry VIII?

Have fun with me strolling through the labyrinthine streets of Granada’s oldest neighborhood; the Albaicin.

Run-away from monotonous and impersonal groups and set your own rhythm. I will take you to better-kept places so you can take the most spectacular family photos with the Alhambra view.

You have already seen that Granada with kids can combined fun and culture perfectly.

I hope all these tips will help you to organize your time in Granada and.

I would like to meet you and your family.

Let me guide you through Granada’s magical stories.

Tell me your plan and together we will make it a reality.
